NSW: Four illegals uncovered in check on Sydney taxi drivers

The Immigration Department says a check of 50 taxi drivers in Sydney's inner west has
uncovered four illegal workers.

The four men, from India and Hong Kong, are being detained at the Villawood Detention
Centre before their removal from the country.

The department says three of the men are unlawful non-citizens and the fourth had been
working in breach of his visa conditions.

The check of cab drivers was conducted jointly by the Immigration Department, NSW Police,
the NSW Transport Ministry, the RTA and Centrelink.

The operation follows community tip-offs and was carried out in the Burwood and Leichhardt areas.

The Immigration Department says the operation illustrates the need for employers to
check the immigration status of potential employees.
